"Danger! Hole is a feminist zine created by a wonderful girl named Lucy in the sky. Her scribbles come from her personal opinions on third wave feminism and the blockades that keep our society from moving forward. Issue one (BUYSEXUALITY) introduces readers to the term Buysexuality, a phrase used to describe the masses view on sex and sexuality. This issue also includes book reviews, a piece on Christina Aguilera’s turn to feminism, and an article on lady friendly porn (heck yes)! This issue shines a light on the dilemmas women face everyday that we sometimes overlook, or completely ignore. Through Danger! Hole, Lucy explains that being a health, happy woman doesn't have to be a daily struggle! Highly recommended. Full color collage included. - SAM, sourgrapes zine team

"This [PRE]issue focuses on idea of feminism and where third wave feminism is heading. It includes a secret centerfold article that speaks directly towards the pitfalls we face as women and the idea that a woman can live how she desires (and have sex with who she wants!) Lucy has a certain blunt honesty that cuts deep into these issues, while still being completely uplifting and positive towards the future. "Past fumbles in the way of feminism have left mines for us everywhere, and if we want to get out into the real battlefield, we have to pass across these rough spots." The fact that this issue is completely hand made and D.I.Y. just makes it more fond to my heart. Danger! Hole is one of my favorites. - SAM, sourgrapes zine team"

"Hey lucy,

I just got your zines in the mail today and I want to make love to them. that's right, I want to take your zines, roll them up and use them to sexually pleasure my vagina!!! I like them that much. It's so good to read another zine solely dedicated to third wave feminism, like mine tries to. I'm not going to pick favourite 'bits' of your zines, suffice it to say I enjoyed every page. I share your views on porn and rape and a lot of other topics you mention, and, just to share, my riot grrrl virginity popping band was bikini kill. I also have read that 'slut: growing up female with a bad reputation" book and was happy to see someone else has too. i like the name of your zine, it kind of makes me think "warning: vagina in the house". I love how ziney your zine is...all the photocopying and the way it's put together. i suck at photocopying so i just do most of it on the computer.

"Hey!

Just wanted to say I really enjoyed your zine. I liked the idea of "buysexuality" and also the sarcastic style of the zine as a whole. Your "thank you" note to Larry Flynt especially was hysterical. ;-) Thanks!

Hadass (founder of Fallopian Falafel)

"I loveyour zine. The article on pornography was gripping, I liked it. The piece on feminism/riot grrls was even more interesting. Inspiring, even. Your style of zine-making/writing is really good. I can't believe Dangerhole # 1 is your first zine. It's insanely good... Keep it up!

"danger! hole is a very well put together zine with a strong voice. it talks about strong topics and controversies. and it has an interesting collage that explains how porn=money and vise versa. and there is even color... and color can be expensive and deserves recognition. i also loved the "sexually active" chart in the pre-issue. it brings up very good points."

"First of all, thanks so much for sending me yr zines. I really enjoyed them, and showed the pre-issue one to a lot of my friends who liked it too! I like both the writing + graphics (smiley face goes here)."

Beth (Riot House zine founder)

"I love the zine and I was wondering if you need anyone to do music/concert/film reviews because I would love to try and help. Let me know what you think about that? I think the best article in your zine was Joey Ramone turned me Lesbian. I think that's how everyone pictures a relationship to be. Also I loved your review of Pornified by Pamela Paul, it looks like a really interesting book."

Pearl (future Danger! Hole zine staff member)

"Hello Lucy darling!

I received your zine in the mail and finished reading it yesterday & I loved it! I thought you did a great job incorporating a lot of opinions, and posing some really important questions, but not trying to impress your opinion on your readers - which a lot of writers do. You did a great job of forcing your readers to think for themselves about how they view feminism and feminine/masculine concepts. I liked your guest writers as well and I really liked the whole layout of the zine. My favorite was the little "quiz" to see what stereotype you fell into. I think you did a great job spoofing those silly quizzes in Seventeen and CosmoGirl."  I think you are one of the most organized, dedicated, and efficient zinesters EVER! A zine a month is crazy, and you are so on top of your game!"

"... I was very interested in getting my little hands on your zine because I was looking forward to being able to read another feminist minded zine.  As you probably know, zines that even merely touch on the topic of feminism are hard to come by.  So as soon as I got your zine, I nestled into a little corner and read my heart out.  Now, don't think I'm trying to kiss your ass or anything, but I really thought your zine was great!  It was very encouraging to read (your zine reminds me of another pro-girl zine called Bitchcake Girlzine by Rebecca Wolfers).  I loved your analysis of porn and the sexualization of women and the vapid ideals placed on porn that's 'lady friendly'.  It was good, you challenged the issues starting on the first page.  I liked that.  I wasn't kept waiting.  And you were consistant throughout with your feminist-punk love.  Seriouly, keep up the good work."

Liv (Ribald zine founder)

“Only 3 issues in and the speed of development of this new zine is impressive. Issue 2, the most cohesive issues yet, provides many viewpoints on a wide range of feminist issues that would be informative and interesting to people with a wide range of previous knowledge. Knowing the creator is only 18 makes this even more impressive whilst explains the “take-on-the-world” attitude sadly not often found in zines by older zinesters. Lucy’s passion for her zine and the issues in it is evident, producing one fierce product.”

"i've been meaning to write you and tell you i LOVED your last issue. i loved the quiz it in. i thought it was hilarious i liked the piece about the busy lady plaza in the front. i liked the dolls in but i really like how you do the book reviews. those are awesome and not just general but really explain the pros and cons of a certain book.

sooo you are one of my favorite zinesters now and i cant wait to read your next issue. i'm going to review your zine for my next issue. the reason i didn't for this issue is i wrote a review but i felt it didnt do justice to your zine and didn't want to put it in there just because i was running out of time...so don't hate me for that because i think your zine is really interesting and impressive for someone just starting out!!!"

love,kelly

"Danger! Hole # 2 Review

I have to honestly say I loved the newest issue of Danger! Hole.  Lucy once again brings up topic that will make you think.  This issue also includes a quiz called "I am a cliche", an interview with The Hourglass, and an amazing article titled "boy, the poster girl".  And we at BH are looking forward to the next issue of Danger! Hole"

Betty (Bad Habit zine & distro)

"Is the new danger!hole zine all done?
I loved LOVED the one you sent me. I felt like it was the women's magazine I am craving...and am so often let down by most. It was a breath of fresh ideas and cool writing. I would love to see more."

"Hi darling,

I just wanted to let you know that I shared your zine with my health education class today, since we were talking about sexual harassment, and it was one of the most thought-provoking classes I've ever had the pleasure of being in. We used some of your anecdotes and articles in your zine as a basis for our discussion, and since some people in my class are not feminist supporters, there was definitely clashes and controversy. But I think that just made for a more worthwhile discussion, and I hope some of the people in my class are rethinking their values because of it. My health teacher loved your zine and is keeping it to use in later classes for next year and beyond!! I just wanted to thank you again for all of your help =) Your zine is literally the best I have ever read, and I have read quite a few.

"OH MY GOD I LOVE YOUR ZINE SO MUCH. I read it so many times and thought about how good it was over and over and over and I just realized that I never even told you I got it! I somehow thought I did because I was brooding over it for days straight... I absolutely love what you've written about and compiled. I think there was extremely vital information in it that all women should know, especially about what handy objects could be doubled as weapons. Being 5'9 and pretty muscular sure as hell works in my favor in the self-defense department, so I'm actually never worried about being attacked. I tend to take this for granted and not think about it until I hear stories about physical violence towards women. My best friend is 5'2 and VERY attractive so anytime I hear good defense tips I make sure to pass them on to her and all other women in my life. My mother actually was almost abducted once but escaped her potential attacker by remembering stories about how to talk to them directly and get in your car a certain way. All because of some e-mail she absentmindedly read and passed on.
So, all in all, thank you for writing about this issue! I really do think spreading that information can and will save lives, and I hope that all women can be as unconcerned about experiencing physical violence as I am.

" yay! i got the latest ish in the mail today. i am about to go read it right now.

if i hadn't told you already, i love love loved the body issue. it actually inspired some of the things i talked about at the first riot grrrl kent meeting. i have only read the intro to this issue but i'm about to go read the rest now (instead of studying, oops.)

love,
bri"

"*Zines-So just this year I’ve discovered some pretty awesome zines and they are some of the most awesome things I’ve come across. Each zine is its own unique work of art. the people behind zines put so much of their creative effort into the making/designing/writing of each issue and then send it out to share with the lucky people who have discovered them. My favorite zines right now are Danger!Hole Zine, Pulse & She’s So Very… The zines differ in content…while D!HZ & Pulse deal a lot more with feminism related issues, She’s So Very… is a much more personal journey by the writer-and needless to say she is prolific, making reading it a pleasure and a journey of its own! So anyone who doesn’t wait anxiously for the mail should give these zinesters a shot (and look for more!)"

"hiya sweetie

got ur issues a few days ago, haven't had a chance to read them all, read the latest issue on sex cover to cover, so I'll give my feedback on that one first! I loved loved loved the info you supplied about contraception, learnt soo much, it was so nice to read the accoutns from people about their sex education, I went a christian primary school (5-11yrs) and in my final year they told us about sex but were forbid to give us any information on even what contraception is in case it encouraged us! where's the logic??  I wholeheartedly agree with sex ed at the earliest age possible, in the netherlands they are brought up with complete understanding of sex from the age of 5, including lessons on how to apply condoms correctly, and by the last years of education learn about sexual technique AND they have one the world's lowest rate of teenage pregnancy! i loved every part you included, the interview with the zine queens doing the how to guide felt like I was sat there having a chat with you!

thankyou for the stickers as well, they are pride of place on my work folder so I'll never be too far from the grrrl spirit.

hows the next issue going?

thanks hunny, keep up the good work"

"Hey grrrl!
Sorry this took so long. I just got back from Montreal, I went to see Arch Enemy in concert (omg! It was nothing short of orgasmic!).
Anyway, I read the music issue of D!HZ and listened to a bit of the tape. I enjoyed every bit of it!
I don't know if I already said this, but it's worth emphasizing that I love the interactiveness of your zine, and how you get the reader to participate, play around with it, etc. For example "Decorate Zeh Grrrl" or "Make Yer Mark."
Aside from that, one of my favorite pieces were the excerpts you included about Riot Grrrl in the media, and how you analyze parts of it and rip it to shreds! Great job!! :-D
And the piece "Her A-R-T is better than yr. art" was pure genius!
Keep up the good work, and let me know what's up!
Did you get my zine, btw?

Hadass."
